The newly completed RedBay Sunset Lodge is the culmination of a dream by well known flats guide Benry Smith. For many years Benry shuttled clients from the east side of Andros Island to the remote flats of Red Bay. The abundant and unpressured schools of Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit that lived there readily justified the one hour trip. However, Benry knew there was a better way and following in the footsteps of his dad “Crazy Charlie Smith” he began the process of acquiring the permits and raising the money to begin building the first lodge on the west side of North Andros Island.

Benry has just completed the construction of The RedBay Sunset Lodge, the only lodge of it’s kind on the entire west coast of North Andros, it boasts three private rooms on the water and will comfortably sleep six. A quaint dining room easily accommodates clients and guides with authentic Bahamian dishes and complimentary wine and beer. If you are looking for night life after your day on the water, keep looking this isn’t the place for you. However, if you want to fish hard, eat well, sleep sound and – then do it all over again the Red bay Sunset Lodge is the best the Bahamas has to offer.

Anglers staying at The RedBay Sunset Lodge have unlimited flats on the west side of Andros at their finger tips as well as miles of flats in the Joulter Cays just a few minutes north of the lodge. The primary fish are Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit but the west Andros flats are home to a wide variety marine life including Mutton Snapper, Barracuda, sharks, rays, turtles etc, many of which will readily attack a fly.

Fly rods are the primary equipment used to target Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit on the West side of Andros. However spinning rods with large surface lures are a great way to target the big barracudas that frequent the flats.
